Christmas and New Year

This year Christmas was in Finland, a nice, quiet family Christmas, complete even with snow. Just in time, a day before Christmas we got snow, and the landscape turned into a proper winter wonderland.

We even had sun, which is hard to see in the pictures. but for those familiar with Nordic winter sun it is easily detectable in the pictures. When there is sun it is never high above the horizon, but that is what you get when you live 60 degrees north!

After a bit more than a week in Finland we returned to Gex, picked up Africa, nice and clean and washed! from the kennel and drove to Wengen for five days of skiing. and we were lucky again. Central Europe got some snow after Christmas, in fact it was still snowing when we came to Wengen, so again we had both snow and some days with beautiful sunshine. Not a lot of snow, which clearly shows on Filip’s brand new skis, but enough to keep us solidly off piste for the last three days. Not bad at all. Wengen is a lovely little village, a bit hard to reach because of the very slow railway connection, but it is real Switzerland, and people are extremely friendly and helpful. A good family skiing resort, maybe not so attractive if one wants to spend most of the time off piste. But well worth a visit.
